Well today I got in my Supra and turned the key to start it up and moved my hand to release the E-brake when the key fell out, but the car was still running!!! WTF!! I have never seen that before!! I guess I will be purchasing a new ignition cylinder!! Is this normal with our cars?

psh i wish mine could do that....my dad had an old caddy that you could take the key out of and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world! If I were you I'd drive down the road with a friend, pull it out when he isn't looking, then ask him to hold it while you mess with something.

My dad's old toyota pickup truck does that. Freaks me out everytime I have to drive the damn thing and the keys fall out of the ignition on the freeway.

The ignition switch is the electrical part. The lock part turns the electrical part with 'stem' thing on the end (inside).

The tumblers are wore out on yours. And probably the key too. You can take the new lock to a lock shop and have it keyed to match the doors.

My key is removable while running. Had a taurus that did it aswell. It's the key in most cases. A factory supra key shouldn't slide out, but usually it's no problem.

First try a new key, one that isn't worn out. If the problem persists, get a new ignition switch with a matching key.

You DO NOT want a worn ignition switch, makes stealing the car a piece of cake.

Ask me how I know :\

The key is brand new. I had it cut off of the key code about 2 days after I bought the car. So I think it is time for a new ignition cylinder and I will just have to have the new one keyed to the original key.
