Ignition control Module?

What exactly is the ignition control module? My buddy brought my 86.5 into a shop today because he wants to buy it. The mechanic said the ignition control module was bad. Would this be the distributor?

Beats me. Maybe one of the 41,000 Google hits for "ignition control module" might help. Or one of the 8250 for "toyota igniton control module".

He might mean the ignitor, and just doesn't know what it is called.

He might have meant the ECU. Rare, but possible.
