I am trying to confirm my igniter is good/bad. One test is not passing every part, the power transistor check. I have tried two igniters and both return the same results.

(d) & (e) which trigger coils 2&5, pass as described.
(f) - (h) trigger coils 1&6, fail
(i) - (k) trigger coils 3&4, fail

With test equipment attached for first test; I get ~2.5-3K ohm and when I apply 3V the needle swings all the way to 0 then returns.
With test equipment attached for the other two: I get ~2.5-3K ohm and when I apply 3V the needle drops to about 2K ohm and stays there.

Odd thing; The car does run, but I have thrown code 14 a couple times recently.

My 3V source is an old two battery AA flash light. I removed the lens and bulb, soldered some lead wires to + and - connection of reflector assembly. Now I can make all connections and apply/remove test voltage while watching ohmmeter.

I was hoping someone could do this test on their igniter and report their results. Or tell me I'm doing it all wrong.

Thanks

If someone would test their igniter. You do not have to disconnect each coil pack. You can disconnect/test at the engine harness connector to the coil pack. Pin position is in the left hand column.

EDIT: test connection points
pin 2 for IG2
pin 2&4 for IG1
pin 2&3 for IG3

That would be great. Also, if someone has one they could bench test; here are the connections:

Igniter bench test

I obviously used a 9v power source, but my results were the same as on the car with 12v.
I guess if you had one of those Jump Start batteries, that would work better.

613KB vid file. Watch the needle deflect in the first test, IG2, and not in the other two.

Thanks to cjsupra90 for explaining how I was doing the test incorrectly.:icon_redf
I updated my images, of the test procedure, to hopefully clarify how to do it correctly.
I currently have three GOOD igniters :)

Glad that I was able to help you figure it out.

So it sounds like you might have a couple of Ignitors for sale then huh?
