Hi Everyone!
[ holy crap this is long ]
Name's Bryan C. from the San Francisco Bay Area. Ive been on this forum for quite some time. Just now putting together something showing just about everything i been through with the 4 MK3's I've owned. It's not quite a build thread but its pretty damn close.
I currently own my 1989 Pearl White 1JZ-GTE and a 1989 Mahogany Pearl 7M-GTE soon to be 2JZ-GTE.
_______________________________________________________
Well my Supra life began back in Late 2009, maybe October 2009, and picked up my first Supra for $1600 an all white 7M-GTE with a horrible wiring harness, a broken rear-drivers side glass, horrible interior, a dead battery and an abundance of other issues that came along with it, little did i know. All i knew is that it was, it had a turbo, 5 speed, some aftermarket wheels and an awesome removable targa top and fell in love ha.
Here's some pics of it when i first got her:

Few months pass and by Christmas 2009,
my clutch had gone to shit got , had that fixed just replaced it with OEM Clutch and Pressure Plate. Got the car back early Jan.

Couple weeks later i get a little bit too bold and try to "drift" a local hair-pin corner, I spun out and hit the curb  i busted quite a bit of stuff on the rear drivers side wheel hub. Bent both the lower and upper control arms as well as the toe link[?]. broke the brake rotor and busted a rim as well. had it towed to my gf's apartment and not at home because i was utterly ashamed at what happened and didnt want my mom, and grandparents to find out what had happened. eventually i had to tell them and told them that i had to dodge a deer... had to look into parts and individually they're expensive even from pick n pull. so i looked into purchasing a parts car.
Pics:
Pic of the parts car getting towed away after ive used everything i needed. the chassis was clean and loved the color but just wasnt its time.
By late-jan / early-feb 2010
my headgasket had blown and it was spewing steam out of the tailpipe, had that fixed went ahead and upgraded a few things, with a new intercooler setup, HKS 2.0 MM MHG.
No pics boo :|

As the months pass by a bunch of small things here and there break and improvements were made.
Brake Master Cylinder died, Power Steering hoses broke, Coolant lines Broke, Wiring harness and CPS wiring went to shit, turbo wasn't boosting and making a loud grinding/whirrring noise it was also cracked inside see pics. suspension was horrible.

On the bright side picked up a used BIC DDP off supramania bought an Apex'i N1 muffler to go along with it, Full CLEAN maroon interior excluding the dash FOR FREE. Painted my vented headlight covers. Learned a lot within the few months even tho a lot of the major work was done by a local shop.

NorCal Supras Summer "Meat" BBQ and Cruise. more of a MKIV meet there was a few MKIII there including me really cool chill in person, lol just on the forums MKIII owners always happen to get that slight hazing so at first it was awkward. Anyways, earlier i had replaced my turbo myself since it was cracked i had neglected to double check an oil line from it the motor ran low oil and began to rod knock the next day after the cruise...

I was carless for a couple of months didn't quite know what i wanted to do, find a newer 7m, 1j, 2j, uz?
I ended up convincing my grandparents to loan me some moolah for a 1j swap, to be done on the car. At the same time a local friend from the forums pretty reputable guy Moe aka Suprastanger507mgte on SF, had contacted me to just buy his 1j swapped MK3 instead. i looked into it and for the costs, buying his car was a lot more cost effective.
the reasons:
Swap Cost: ~$5000
keeping my car pros:
??? 1jz? with-hold the labor and costs i already put into it?
My current car cons:
bad paint, leaky targa, bad suspension, minor damages, leaky hatch, needed wheels and tires, tranny synchro was going out.
New 1J Swapped Car cost: $6000
New 1J Swapped Car pros:
like new paint, lowered on tockico shocks and springs, 1jz, strut bars front and rear, came with a sub and amp no stereo. came with 92 MK3 5 spoke wheels.
New 1j Swap cons:
Cost, interior was kinda tore up. needed smog for register. front bumper was unpainted/primer white
________________
So i went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 1J Swapped MK3. LOVE IT! i was amazed on how much pull the 1j had it surprised me when the boost kicked in so quick, caught me off guard.
Here's some pics of it before i did anything to it.
Welcome Denise.

Late December 2011
Hello Mahogany Pearl Supra
so since my wall incident ive been looking for a clean supra replacement/addition. the amount/cost it would take to get my white 1j straight because the frame is actually bent up. and the hood sits crooked one side of it isnt actually bolted down to the joint. headlights scrape against the hood too. so i decided to purchase another one hopefully make it my daily. and clean it up a bit. keep it stock and not have to worry about cops.
she's in pretty good shape. minor damage to the front and drivers side rear quarterpanel but its manageable. clear coat prolly needs to be refreshed. interior is great excluding the driver and passenger seats, the fold down seats have a little sunwear on it but whose doesnt? targa stays sealed. 7M-GTE harness is almost if not fully perfect. no radio has hatch cover and a slight tint to the windows. shifts good as well. and a set of saws that are chromed which i personally have never seen before. even came with the window sticker!
Previous owners picture before it was damaged.
______
it was sold to me under the impression that it was not running. so i took it out the next day hooked up a battery charger and it started right up no problem it seemed.
so it steamed.
so after running it for a bit this is what it looked like...
Booo BHG! -___-
so i began to take her apart kinda get a little better knowledge of disassembling a 7m was kinda fun and painful  but heres a few pics of what i came across.
A lot of dry brittle hoses and what not.
thermostat was covered in oil and muck.
Headgasket was in horrible condition as well. or maybe it was from me tearing it apart?

So i talked with my buddy Moe who sold me my white 1j mk3, he agreed to work on my brown car and get the headgasket repaired while i leave for Army training for 3.5 weeks.

MAILMAN! Delivering my Rodknock/valve slapping 7M-GTE
couple days later the car began to make a noise that i just could not bare to drive it around with. not sure if it was rod knock or valve slapping whatever it is it wasnt good.

Deployment.
Couldnt really do much about it but have it sit in the garage, i was getting ready to ship out to Fort Bliss, TX for my deployment. so the car sat in the garage and behind it Denise my White 1j. getting started every 2 weeks.
oh how i miss both of the cars.

while on this deployment its given me a lot of time to think about what i wanted to do with each car and its mostly been about picking something and pulling the trigger on it.
so ive been purchasing things here and there like the Hatch Visor from KevinM on SM. and an S2 Airguide from Shine off Rodel on SM as well. on top of that i organized with my local shop that did my BHG job on my first supra to do a 2JZ swap into the brown car.
So just last month i had my mom Organize AAA to have it towed to Limitless Motorsports for the 2j Goodness to begind.
the plans i had for the car while they worked on it was to do the stock 2j swap keep my 2.5in exhaust BUT have a 3" downpipe that leads to an adapter to the 2.5in setup AND an electronic cut out!
also the basics, regular maint, timing belt waterpump seals and what not. ive requested them to keep the AC if possible since my white car doesnt have it. here in NorCal it may not be used much for hot weather but when it rains, it helps keep the windows fogless. also if i take it to SoCal, id need it for the warm weather you guys got.
Other things i plan for it are wheels which im currently looking for is a set of Advan Super Advan Racing V2's[if anyone has a set lmk prefer gold ], i saw Rodel's car with them, instantly fell in love WANT. and of course fix the minor issues with the paint and damages. coils. in the near future maybe next year christmas time, going big single.
_____________
Anyways i just cant wait for the work to be done and for me to be back home driving it around! im over this deployment already haha but for now lets just keep the paychecks rolling in.
Thanks for looking/reading!
