Hey guys, I just thought I'd re-introduce myself, 3 posts later...

Well I just got a new paint job on my '87 7mgte auto (Probably has a BHG and needs a new turbo).

Just wondering what the best thing to do with $7 grand would be.
That's the overall budget I've decided on so far...

Any ideas on what this could do for my project / and what the most cost-effective swaps/upgrades/etc I should consider?

I know you probably have to explain stuff like this to newbs all the time, but given my budget - what would you guys say is best?

Thanks for any input!

what are your plans? fast car...fast AND reliable...cosmetic....or a combination of the three? It depends on what you want to do with the car

Basically it already looks good (paint, interior, etc) ... the only extra cosmetics I plan on doing would be some 18" rims and an 89+ spoiler... and new tint.

No use having a fast car needing repairs every time you drive it.. but I've heard you can get the best of both worlds. I want at least 350hp and something reliable enough to be a second daily driver (for the nice days)...

Thanks!

I had the same amount of money that you do and I chose to rebuild everything with forged pistons and rods, MHG, arp head and main studs, rebuilt ct, new clutch, new hoses and vac, and powdercoat everything. Parts and labor will be just under 6500 for me. If you want details, just pm me.

Now this wont get you the 350hp that youre looking for but I chose this route for it will be a strong platform to start with.....and my jdm 7m wasnt up to par.

^Bingo.. I have no doubt my 2JZGE could be reliably daily driven. I mean, the MKIV/SC300 guys do it all the time.. and the only weak link of the MKIII is the 7M.

I'm just joking guys ;)

I would do a full rebuild on it before i do anything on the engine.

:werd:

MHG, ARP studs, reconditioned stock rods, forged pistons of your choice, resized for std. bearings, balanced crank, clutch kit, upgraded CT-26 (a 50-57 trim would be ideal), turbo back exhaust, hard pipes and IC, walbro fuel pump, AFPR, flow matched stock injectors... You should be able to hit 350HP safely any day of the week off of this.
