I have a Supra 7mgte 1990 that I want to upgrade with a better ecu than the factory... so I was wondering which ecu is better, microtech, haltech, motec, electromotive, megasquirt or aem... A lot people told me to use microtech or aem... for different reasons people told me to use microtech since they think I'll get better results with it, but another lot people told me to use aem since is better, it's plug and play, and is easy to use and even has support by telephone... Please tell me which ecu is better to use, to create settings, for drag and for street, to use every day in daily basis, and better to install and to learn how to use it...:icon_bigg

oh boy where to begin.. This is like asking what type of woman is better. ( or for you ladies, what man). Any answer given is subjective. Its your money. Do the research yourself. I personally dislike AEM, are you going to cross it off your list now? I wouldn't take opinion off the web for an item like this. Call some shops, talk to the guys that actually use it. It doesnt matter what it cost or how bad ass it is if the guy tuning it cant use it properly..

There is not a standalone on the market that has had the money sunk into its development like an OEM ecu... The stock ecu on most any car on the road is far superior to any standalone of reasonable cost. (my opinion) Keep in mind your buying products that serve nothing but aftermarket. They do not have the extensive quality testing that OEM products require.

+1 for its only as good as the tuner/installer

Find your tuner FIRST than find your ecu of their liking

Exactly. Buy what is supported locally.

Bottom line, most of these systems are about equal when it comes to basic tuning. Some have extra features. Some have extra gimmicks. None of that matters if your local tuner doesn't know the system inside out.

I agree with these guys find your tuner then see what they like to use I went with link ecu because I live in chch new zealand and they are made here too( 30mins from my house) and every tuner in this town tunes a link 3 times a day minimum so they all know them inside out seemed the logical choice for me aswell as supporting the community

well heres my two cents, the ecu is really only as good as the tunner tuning it at the time, cause i have the godsen of john reed about 4 blocks from my house (not kidding guys, ive been in his house many many times). so just ask what your tunner is most comfortable with when he tunes as well, that way atleast you should beable to trust in something.

Basically the tuner prefer aem but I have some friends that can tune it with microtech... But basically you are telling me that the car will perform as good as the tuner set it...

Any ECU can be fine, the tuner just has to get all the maps right. Check your Inbox.

Man this is a lot of work, many people told me theit favorite but it is has you say... It all depends on the tunner and who is making the maps and programs... basically I think i'll move to either microtech or aem since i got connection on great tunner on those ecu

That's great. If the tuner knows the program, they can get a better tune dialed in faster, which can save you time and money in the end!

fwiw, I use an AEM and my tuner is well versed in AEM tuning, as well as Supra tendancies. All of this adds up to my tune being freakin awesome! :D

yes, ts really on the tuner, cause, ive asked john reed many times on this subject my self, and hes tod me that hes done cars where hes gotten the same power with two different ECUs, so yea, theres some up and some downs to every ECU, thats a given, but basically as long as the tuner knows how to use it, your ok.

That's the thing... some people told me that their are difference that can make a very stupid difference, but at the end of the day basically that difference is still there... I heard enough in this subject about this ECU can give you more and that ecu can give you less bla bla bla... I have connections with both AEM and microtech, but basically people that have tune car using AEM they told me that they learn from nothing basically forums, calling, and basically some adjustments and they make a ton of power... Maybe I'll be using that ECU since it seems so easy to use, to learn to use it and to tune it....

Does anyone know if motec is an easy ems to learn how to tune computers off of? Being a complete noob and all here but it'd be nice to learn how to tune from one of the best engine management systems there is to offer. Does anyone know where I can go to learn how to tune them? Thanks for everything.
