Sorry in advance, but it's a pretty boring story. Wanted to get it off my chest because I didn't think it would walk me so bad...
I had just turned left at an intersection, when I see this BMW pull out of a Waffle House, and gun it down the road in front of me. He was going well over the speed limit, and though I would have liked to race him, I figured he was too far ahead, and I didn't want to tempt fate by trying to catch up at that point. Well, 1/2 mile down the road(a twisty one), I see that he's been caught at a red light, waiting to turn. Cool- that's MY left turn also.
Well, I pull up behind him, and wait for the light change. When it does, he starts rolling into the turn, but not very quickly. I was ready to jump on it, then when I see that he apparently has used up all his desire to speed, I backed off. Right then, he gets on it. so I get on it. Bottom line, I hit full boost (12psi) about 3 seconds into it, but it didn't matter. I went all the way up to 5500rpm, shifted, but never stopped the lead he was growing on me.
I was at least expecting to pace him...no good. It looked like a stock 1997 M3, prolly auto, because I didn't see any shifting lag. He just kept...moving away.... I looked up the car's specs- 240hp, 236ft-lb tq, 0-60@5.7ish,
1/4mi in 14.3 @100mph. I guess I shouldn't feel THAT badly...
In my defense(because I really feel the need to blame something), I have a slightly slipping clutch, and mild rodknock in cylinder 6. That will all change, though, when I put in my new motor/ driveline next month.
Thanks for reading.
PS- for any of you who have raced an M3 and won- what did it take? In other words, what were your mods?
