Type R. I've driven one and it handles so fuggin amazing for a FWD car. Or a GTS, they are fun as shit too and they are relatively cheap for parts and what not. not to mention better gas mileage then the type r.
edit. im not too sure if youcan find a type r for your price range could you?

ck, sw20 mr2 out of the question?

how about a mazdaspeed protege (i was damn close to talking my mom into getting a yellow one). things are set up nice out of the box.

The 2003.5 MazdaSpeed Protege is powered by a force-fed 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine delivering 170 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque to 17-inch Custom Racing Hart wheels via a five-speed manual transmission with the help of a Tochigi Fuji limited slip differential.

or you could always go with the mazdaspeed3, thats another killer of a car with the 6 speed manual tranny and the 2.3l mzr (direct inject) engine.

unfortunately employee pricing on a new car isn't impressive, there isn't a whole lot of mark-up at the dealership level like you think. thats wht a car salesman would almost always rather sell you a car off of the used lot if he works in an open-lot dealership.

typical comission in my area is 25% of the gross profit.

thinking of my days at ford dlrshp, a new taurus might have 1200 room in it, if you pay sticker, which is gonna give you like 300 bucks.

a two year old bought at auction taurus might have 4k in it you get a grand, for selling a car that is prolly several thousand less than new, for the same ammount of time you have wrapped up in it

you are still going to have to greet the up, chit-chat, evaluate the trade, land them on a car, do the negociate thing between the up and the sales mgr, start the paperwork, run them thru f&i, finish your paperwork, take your up-turned buyer into the svc dept and show them how great their new family is, see them off, and if there is any daylight left, try to find another up.
this process can take from a few hours to all day, if i am going to invest all that time, i'm going to try my best to get them in the used ride..the one that is more profitable to me...
