Ever since i bought my car my heat doesnt work and I heard that there were problems with the heaters in these cars. Someone also told me you could bypass the heater valve. Does anyone know what to do to get my heat to work again? thanks :1zhelp:

you need to locate the "heater water control valve"
this is it right here (click to enlarge)

then, pull up on the actuator and hold it up with something. (i used a couple zipties)

5 minutes, and you have wonderful, glorious heat.
another alternative to this, and i much prefer this method.
leave it alone. when you need heat, put the car away :icon_razz

also, there is a writeup somewhere on how to use a mercedes-benz actuator. if you want to do it "right"... i'm sure i will do that some day.

hope i could help.

I come from a land down under
I had the dead heater thing when I got mine back in 97!

I worked through everything and it ended up being a faulty climate control switch swapped that out and it's been perfect ever since.

Might be OT but does this affect AC too? Meaning making the air colder?

not unless it's sticking open and letting hot coolant into the heater core, thus making your AC not as cold as it should be.

To check if your VSV is actually bad: turn the climate control all the way down and observe the position of the lever arm on the valve. Now turn the climate control all the way up and check if the lever arm moved. If it didn't the VSV is bad.

You can use a Toyota VSV for a Camry. I did it a while back, I recall paying around $30 for it from Jay Marks Toyota. I don't recall the actual parts number but Jeff Watson does (Their parts guy).

It's pretty easy; grub the silicon out of the supra VSV so you can cut the wires between the connector and VSV long. Take the connector that you just cut off the old VSV, solder the two wires to the two tabs on the Camry VSV, fill it in with silicon to seal it up then bolt it into your supra.

Just pull the vacuum line off the vsv and put it to the heater water valve all winter. The valve is always open any way (letting water flow thru thwe core), except when the temp is set to 65*. Read, read read the TSRM. For those that have to SEE everything for themselves, test it on a good car.

I just unplug it in the summer and stick a golf tee into the vacuum line. I plug it in during the fall/winter for heat.

Seems everyone's already said everything I was going to say. This actually comes up quite a bit perhaps someone feels like adding a FAQ item? =)
