or maybe I'm just not smart enough... I dunno, I'm new to all that Photoshop stuff.

Anyway, can anyone tell me how to turn a colored picture into a black and white one with colored highlights?!?!?!?!?!

Like that:

try this: select that paintbrush, set mode up at the top to Saturation, and set the color to black. paint everything you don't want to be in color.

alternate way (colorizing! woohoo!): go to image>adjust>desaturate, then use the polygonal lasso tool to select an area (like the jeans) that you want to color. Once you have it selected, go to image>adjust>hue/saturation and check the box that says colorize. mess with the sliders and bam you're done

It's pretty easy to do this, just select everything you want to change to black and white and convert it to greyscale.

I tried that thing... greyscale... but it always changed the whole pic... even tho I had parts selected :( :icon_evil

I will try, thanks :)

edit: first one works fine... second one doesnt work cos as soon as I desaturate the picture it won't let me change any colors :(
I'm using Photoshop 7.0 btw.

right as soon as you desaturate the whole picture the idea is to go back in and add color by using the colorize option.

and then flatten. :)

where do I find "Flatten Image" or whatever anyways? I talked to a friend and he said that too but I can't find it... is it possible that it doesn't exist in Photoshop 7.0?!?!?!?!?! Or am I just kinda blind (which is entirely possible)?

i've done this in real life many times... it's always done by hand with markers. you take a b&w photo and then hand color in (usually with a pastel/transparent marker) the areas you want to be in color. i'm not a photoshop guru, but if you saw an ad in print like that, or done with PS, it was probably colored by hand on the computer. a lot of PS masters do most of it manually.
