My "1JZ GTE" Just won't cut it anymore. ;)

I don't have the pics up yet, as I'm at work, but this evening, I picked up a nice shiny 2JZ-GTE with a complete uncut harness and ECU. It's replacing the 1JZ in my Supra that had an unfortunate thrust washer evacuation. :naughty:

I'm thinking I should get "2J WUT" for a plate.....:icon_razz

I'm going to swap over my GT40-88 onto it. I'm undecided if I want to throw on the 1JZ head (and cams), to keep my manifold, or if I want to try to modify my beautiful HKS SS manifold to fit on a 2JZ head.

I'm going to be running it off of the 1JZ harness, and let my V-Pro take care of everything. It should be a plug-and-play affair.

Hopefully I'll get it in this week. The Supra will be boosting again!

How's the V-Pro working out for you? I'm looking for alternative methods of engine management.

Go 1.5.

Haha, you want me to talk about the V-pro huh? I could go on for hours.

The V-pro is an amazing engine management system, that's for sure. It's expensive, but it's WELL worth it if you have a good tuner. I know a guy who's been tuning Supras with these things since HKS came out with them.

For what it's worth, my stock twins, with Cams, intake, and downpipe did 315whp on STOCK boost with the V-pro. There's another local car running a completely stock 1JZ, and the powerbad on the car is unbelievable. It pulls well to almost 7k with stock cams.

A lot of people tend to run and hide when you mention that your ECU is constantly adjusting its injector pulsewidths based on wideband feedback, even under WOT, but this thing does it, beautifully. I've seen V-pro's on literally Dozens of cars, from Hondas, Nissans, Supras, even a Lotus, and I've never ever seen one of them blow-up. I swapped my 380cc injectors out for 800cc injectors. Once I actually got the car started (shut off the fuel pump and let it start off the fuel sitting in the cylinders), the V-pro corrected itself to normal idle A/F ratios in a matter of seconds. A day of driving, and the rest of the map had been re-configured. I more then doubled the injector size, and it compensated almost instantly (I have it set so there's no limit on compensation, but you can lock it down for safety, eg: no more then 5% correction)

The tuning maps in the thing are HUGE. 32x32 for both fuel, and ignition. It's able to store 4 base maps that you can switch between, as well as a number of additional overlay maps that you can enable to change portions (or all) of the base map.

It has a programmable voltage adjustment table (I believe 16 points) so it can smooth out fueling consistancy across voltage fluctuations.

Another table for cold start enrichments (again, I believe 16 points). Mine starts perfectly, even in -35C, and yes, I've tried.

It has anti-lag, 2-step, as well as a number of programmable outputs (I forget how many, but I believe there's analog, and digital PWM outputs). The new version (not in North America yet) also has knock feedback. The older ones can read the knock, but they won't adjust themselves to it. It has 6 injector chanels, as well as 6 ignition chanels.

A note regarding the outputs: There's a supercharged Lotus runnng a V-Pro here in town, and has the computer set up to engage, and disengage the supercharger from one of the outputs. That way, the SC doesn't turn on below operating temperature, or in part throttle situations. Hell, it could PWM control the clutch on the SC, to adjust boost pressre if you wanted to kill the clutch ;)

The V-Pro can interface with the HKS gauge controller, allowing the V-pro to read all of your gauge sensors too. You could have the V-Pro shut down if your fuel pressure started dropping for example.

There's an additional knob that you can interface to teh V-Pro to control almost ANYTHING. It's software programmable. For example, I have one in my car that I have setup to adjust my 2-step between 3000, and 5200rpm in 200rpm increments, but it could easily handle fuel enrichments, timing adjustments, table switching, immobilizer (yes, you can lock-out your car like a combination lock), or even combinations of the above (like positions 1-4 are for maps, 5-12 are for something else). The V-Pro can interface with up to 4 of these units.

There's also a display you can interface with these things (The F-Con Navigator), but I'm not entirely sure of its features. I know it can display things like table values, MPG, even limit your driving to achieve a target MPG.

There's a ton more features, these are just the ones I know about from conversation, and looking at the software over the shoulder.

The local tuner offers a money-back guarantee on these things. If you're not 100% satasfied, return it for a full refund. He's never had a single one come back.

If you have any more questions, I'll see if I can answer them. Hands down, this was the best purchase I ever made for my car.

Wow, that sounds really impressive. You're right, the WBO2 feedback thing is scary to me. LOL. I'd just have to replace it every so often to keep from scaring myself shitless.

Good luck, I say go 1.5JZ so you don't have to worry about the manifold, downpipe, etc.

How'd you break your 1J? I thought it was proven you had to do something borderline retarded to blow up a 1J... That doesn't bode well for you! :p

Yah, you run a 3200lb pressure plate on old, worn thrust washers.

Pic!

I'm not willing to part the covers. The 1.5JZ is only temporary. Once I get a manifold, I'm going full 2JZ for a few reasons:

1. I've been told the combustion chamber on the 2JZ is better, allowing you to run a lot more timing then a 1JZ. I've been told this by a tuner who works with both motors, so I'm inclined to believe him.

2. The 2JZ intake manifold has a working ISCV, wheras my 1JZ does not.

3. The 2JZ valve covers just look damn cool.
