ok, being fairly new to turbo cars ive done tons of research. the one thing that i think i havent found yet is the whole ar stuff. could someone chime in and shead a lil light onto the subject for me.

so what is ar? i see that it has somthing to do with the size of the turbo housing. anyone feel like trying to exp[lane this a lil for me.

thanx for the info in advance.

I'll keep it simple.

A/R stands for Area devided by the Radious. (sp?)

Its constant, which means where ever you measure from, you'll get the same answer.

Its simply the relationship between the area of the exhaust or compressor housing to the radious of the wheel inside of it.

The larger the number, the more lag BUT the more CI, CC, or LTR of an engine the turbo can handle. If the A/R on the exhaust housing is too small for too large of a displacement of an engine, the engine will choke.

Same goes for the compressor housing. Too small and the engine in effect will choke. Again there is alot more to it that what Im typing.

Typically, compressor housing A/R is less critical when it comes to lag & spool than turbine housing A/R.

sweet guys, thanks.

mdc: yet again you point someone in the right direction.

tsuper: thanks for the link. i knew most of that but it did explain just a lil more that what i have read before.

so after this, does anyone know of a good a/r for builting a 500 rwhp 7m? i have a deal on a 60-1 ct 26, but i hear that there only good for about 25k miles. my supra is my ride. only one at the moment.

i want a lil more and have most the stuff to start for that hp range, i just want a outside thought on the turbo area of it.
