my uncle has a new jetta turbo diesel. that thing is quick, would not mind driving one every day at all. although i thought the suspention was not so great, seemed to dive whenever i hit the breaks, alittle roll, not bad though.
I just got a 1997 Golf K2 for winter , i'm so impressed that i may put my self on the order list for a new R32. If you guys are not fimiliar with the R32, it came out in limited production , about 5000 units, in 2004. It's all wheel drive, 3.2 liter v6 and about 270 Hp, about 6.2 seconds 0-6O mph. Fun!
My wife's got a '03 Passat Synchro Wagon.
Great driving car.
But the VW quality is real bad. It uses rear brakes twice as fast as fronts. I replace rear brakes every 6 months.
It burns a quart of oil every 2500 mi.
The rear wiper was toast before the first year was up.
All 4 tail light bulbs burned out at once.
3 of 4 replacement bulbs shorted out and the tail and brake lights were always on when you turned on the lights.
The seat heaters have a recall.
The center console arm rest jambed and broke.
What I would like is the turbo diesel from the A8 over here in mine. The 4.2 gas is a fine motor indeed, but the tourqe potential of the diesel version is excellent. (I've read 500+ is an easy mod, on stock turbo's and fuel.)
And they get better than 30mpg on the highway.
For 104,000 miles, my A8 has been pretty dang good. Of course I've only owned it about 12,000 of them, but I'm pretty happy so far.
my buddy bought a 05 GTI 1.8t five speed, car does have some power but feels like it doesnt have enough braking power and the seat postion is a little akward for some reason.
