I deserve the Hall of Shame....Code 24

Like the title says. I buffaloed myself big time today and deserve a swift kick in the ass. I fabbed up a ghetto heat shield and I pulled my Apexi intake out of storage and preceded to remove the stock CAI. No big deal a junior member could perform this task with one hand tied behind his / her back. After I completed the installation the engine ran rough. The idle was surging, dropping and coughing. I checked all the clamps, hoses, AFM plug and everything was on and tight.

Jiggled the AFM plug...No change.

I pulled codes. No codes (Fast blinking light).

I disconnected the AFM plug. Now the idle corrects itself but when you step on the gas the engine shuts down. I Check codes again and now I get code 24 (Intake air Temp Sensor Signal). I figure the plug is good and the afm is working or I wouldn't get a code.

I plug the AFM plug back in and clear the codes.

I Start the engine again and it runs rough, coughing, sputtering same as before. I pull codes again. .... Fast blinking engine light... NO CODES!!! WTF I say to myself.

I pause because I can feel the hair standing up on the back of my neck. Now my nose starts telling me that the exhaust and garage smells like someone has poured gas all over the floor. Personally I hate the smell of gas it makes my stomach turn. So I tell myself. No codes, I got spark, I got fuel, what about AIR, O2 (oxygen).......

Need I say more......Bubble wrap inside the Apexi filter.......Let the flaming begin.

Now THAT is classic! I'm talking a Jon Stewart moment of zen classic.

If only I'd been there to see it. Don't suppose you had anyone filming it for posterity did you? :biglaugh:

Almost did the same, put a cone filter on instead of plastic crap. Went for a drive and couldn't figure out why it ran horrible. Popped hood on left upper ic pipe completely off.

Woot for me.. Good show man

happened to a friend of mine, had the engine rebuilt by a shop and when he got the car back it was low on power and ran crappy. like it was hitting fuel cut but at less then stock boost and about 3000 rpm.

turns out the shop put a rag in the turbo so nothing would fall into it and when they put it back together forgot to take it out.

We all fuck up like that sometimes. But props on having the balls to make a thread about it! You have no reason to be embarrased about shit like that unless you cant figure it out and someone else does. How relieved were you when you found the bubble wrap?
