It's a bit of a pain in the rump, but not that bad. Throttle linkage must come off, as well as the air intake, in theory you might be able to work around the spark plug wires, but in reality it's going to be easier to pull them off. A couple vacuum lines over the top of the engine if I recall correctly, and then it's just a bunch of screws for each cover and you're done.
When you put them back on, get proper hex head bolts so you can get a real torque reading, use new gaskets and the bolt seals, clean the sealing surface well, then you won't have any leaks.
