How to tell the differance between the w-58 and R-154 trans

what are the external diffances between the w58 and the r154? Im picking up a spare trans and hes not sure witch one it is. If you could let me know how to tell them apart that would be cool. Also what are the stock rear end gears behind the r154 trans? thanks much

all manual turbo mk3's came with the r154, all manual n/a's came with the w58.

edit: that would be the 4.30. the 4.10 is a jza70 torsen diff.

Toyota Differential Codes

The following is a table of Toyota differential codes. These codes are applicable to all Toyota models and years. You will find this code on the VIN plate in your car, typically on the firewall.

The code is comprised of four digits. The first digit is a letter that represents the ring gear diameter. FYI, the easiest way IMO is to see the access panels on the R154, and no access panels on the W58.
