I cannot find any tool to reach in between the firewall and back of the head to get the hose clips off of water bypass hose #5. Anyone have any tips for doing this one?

clip it with tin snips and or twist and pull till the clip breaks. Mine I was able to use the swivel arm and socket to loosen it

I have a different method.

I pull the hose from the top - the one that goes to the firewall for the heater. Then put a BIG socket on the fitting that hose runs too and pull the whole fitting off. It's easy to get the hose off when you have the hose & fitting on your bench instead of on the car. :)

That's an interesting idea. I guess I'll need to get the two gaskets for the heater union. Any guesses as to the size of that fitting?

I come from a land down under
I'll jump in with a horror story using Grims method!

Way back when I got my Supra the previous owner hadn't ran coolant for some time so there was a lot of corrosion in the steel fittings and pipe and most of the rubber was perished or cracking.

I decided to replace as much as I could without pulling the motor, I got to "That Fitting" put a big socket on it had to pull fairly hard and of course it snapped off!

Out came the motor, I found a really cool tool that's a 1/2" square taper with machined edges that removed the broken part no problems.

While it was out I chucked a set of rings and bearings in and did another 100.000 km's before the erroded head caused a BHG then it all began! ;)
