Put a 14mm wrench or socket on this (tensioner) and push down as if tightening it. That will release the tension on the serp. belt.

When I replaced the crank on my 7M I could just keep turning the bolt and pulley and eventually compression would hold the pulley and the bolt would loosen but on the 1JZ it appears to just keep going around in circles how do I get the bolt off?

OK
so if you turn the bolt on the crank pulley the whole crankshaft turns w/ the pulley and the bolt?

OK
you have to have something that holds the crank shaft from spinning, if your motor is in a car the tranny would hold it in place if you had it in 1st gear but if your motor isn't in a car then you have to have your flywheel bolts in and place a bar or something in btwn the bolts so one side of the bar makes contact w/ the ground to keep it from spinning.

Okay I'm about to install the fluidampr crank pulley and in the past I've just slowly tapped it on with a piece of wood and some anti-sieze but the instructions say something about a damper install tool (WTF is that?) so can I just tap it on with some anti-sieze? because I don't have that tool and I want to get it on.

You just need to tap it on. You MAY have some trouble getting the old pulley off without the tool though. It's a little tempermental regarding coming off straight, especially if it's rusted on the shaft.

The bolt holding it on is torqued to something like 250ft/lbs. It's a BITCH to get off. You need to lock the crank down, and prevent it from spinning. I would suggest that you take out one of the spark plugs, get the largest nylon rope you can stick down the hole, coil it up inside the cylinder, then crank the piston up to snug it all together.
