What you will need is this :

-1JZ torque converter, since 2JZ torque converters won't work. (Optionaly you could use the 7M by adding threaded 2.1mm blocks welded on top of the TC boltplates and turning an extension shaft to go onto the TC support shaft. - lots of work though)

-1JZ bellhousing

-keep your old 7M ECT box

-Take out all the ECT related wiring from your old loom and tape it into your new loom, then feed the ect the proper signals back from the new loom.

*** using the 7M torque converter you will end up 2.5 cm's too far away from the flexplate as it is closer to the engine block than on a 7M engine. There is no fun in trying this, tightening everything up and then noticing this as you are trying to bolt the torque converter to the flexplate. Ask how i know :)

I had the choice of some used torque converters , the 7m one the donut shape is not as high, there was another one there that had a bigger outer diameter which was not usable and the 51A010 parnumber one the shaft itself was longer and the donut higher outer diameter is the same. It's listed on this website as being from an ls 400 one http://www.gopnh.com/Transmissions.cfm?Transmission= A341E
It could be however that the one i have is from something else with the correct splinecount, all i have to go on is the partnumber on the TC itself.

**** LS400 one does not fit !!!!

I know the 1gtte ones are very flat/small 20 spline units, 7M ones are quite large so maybe they're the same as the LS ones, just always thought the later model stuff was different.

Is the 7M Auto a GE or GTE one?

You were right, we counted splines and its indeed an ls400 one and it doesnt work. Oh well to plan B then which is adapting ther 7M torque converter to reach the center hole of the crankshaft and getting it to mate up with the flex plate.
