There are crimp-on ones (useless unless you have a giant crimp tool)
There are solder-on ones (hard to do and not screw-up the cable insulation)
There are El-Cheapo bolt-on ones at any automotive store

And there are the real pretty set-screw ones that you can find at an audio store.

They cost the most, but have extra taps for auxillery wires,
and look a lot better.

Dude! Great info. I'll check at a couple car audio stores

I use marine style battery terminals. The type that clamp onto the battery than you tighen a wing-nut down on the cable terminal. I solder the cable terminals onto the cable.

got the heavy duty marine ones on my DD, man they last and hold strong... don't go auto store pre made route.

take your time and make your own.. like others said the aux taps are great. nice and clean look.

As long as you get the solid(Not Painted) terminals, and don't over-tighten the bolts that hold the wires in place, the lead terminals from any parts store work well. you also need to have your battery tied down, so the battery doesn't move around and pull the wires out.

The car audio terminals look great, IMO. And if you plan on doing any add-on's that will require you to tap battery power, they will look ten times better than trying to add it onto a regular terminal.

Those are pretty cool. I've been wanting to do that for a while, just haven't had the time.

I only wished to point out that, if installed correctly, the cheap lead ones will work quite well, and last a long time. They definitely don't look as clean as those, though :)

Most of those suck as they don't get a good connection.

Someone had butchered mine, so I got a set of the pre-made ones that aren't very long, got the copper bolt down connector pieces and melted solder in em with a torch, then stuck the cable on the car in them.

Bolted the ends of those to the ends of the premade cables and wrapped em. Allows me to run normal optima batteries instead of the special order ones with the terminals swapped (being stranded would suck).

My lights down dim or anything after doing this, it solved 99% of the electrical isues with the car.

I just replaced my battery and terminals this last weekend. With my headlights, fogs and a/c running I was showing under 12V at idle and thought this would be a good start.

Old and busted…..

Neat clean and organized…..

The battery hold-down bar was pretty badly corroded so I gave it the once over with a wire brush and some leftover rattlecan. I trimmed off a little too much :nono: on the inner fender ground so that will be redone this weekend with a longer 4ga wire and terminal.

I know from experience, they look good, but they don't work for crap.

What do you think is the cause for these types of terminals not making good connections? The set screws, the material they are made of?

Which terminals? The Fosgate ones above? How don't they work? Inconsistent connection? Voltage drop?

More details please.

I'd like to redo my terminals once I get a good Viper alarm and I'd like to go with a better-than-stock looking one that performs just as well.

The set screws don't get a good enough connection.

Stock style ones work fine, put covers on em if you think they're ugly, or go for the military style ones that get packed with grease...
