How to get the 7MGTE back in with a 2 ton engine hoist?

I am having a problem with getting my 7MGTE motor back into my 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo engine bay. It is a manual transmission. As I put the motor in, the oil pan sits on the frame. I was able to clear the oil pan from the frame and was able to wiggle the motor a bit, but I am not able to line the two engine mounts to where they should be. I have tried various methods such as trying to raise the car a little higher, but this leads to the transmission hitting the firewall. if anyone has any TRICK or tips on how to put it back in smoothly, it would be greatly appreciated. I am a noob at this and this is my first time ever working on a 7MGTE, thanks!

What year is the car and what motor mounts are you using?

Also jacking up the trans helps.

Ya deff have to go back n forth jacking the trans up and then lowering the motor little by little... I put the car really high on jack stands in the back n a little lower in the front so it kinda angles forward... Helps with how the trans/motor hangs.

I work there, and have used both this leveler and this one http://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-ton-capacity-heavy-duty-load-leveler-67441.html and neither of them work well, I just put my motor in last night, and like stated above me, jack the rear of the car up a little more then the front to get angle. Then work back a forth with raising the trans, and lowering the motor, also a extended boom would be a good idea, but im yet to find one that harbor freight offers, and like I said I work there, so I would know.

I was just gunna say extend the boom... It helps alot! I have a 2 ton and mine is in the middle at 1 ton. I know the motor/trans isn't more than 2000 lbs... Lol it extends about 2 more frets on mine and that makes it easy enough to reach over and get it in without hitting the front bumper.

I had the same problem. I bolted the rubber mounts to the block first. Took me 10 minutes. After trying all night the night before.

I've never really run into the problem cause both the of mine are lowered but yets levelers make a big diefference. Our handle fell off so one of the guys welded a 3/8 socket to the center so we just use a air ratchet to adjust it. Makes a big difference!!

Really? Mine is from Harbor freight and has an extended boom.

This is mine. http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-foldable-shop-crane-35915.html

Extended boom lowers the load rating, that's why you'll never see one.

Huh? Every engine hoist I've ever used has an extended boom. Even the "lighter" 2 ton cranes still have a 1/2 ton rating at full extension. I dont know about your 7M, but mine does not weigh 1000 lbs even with the trans. :p

OP: I've used the Harbor Freight Load Leveler and it helps a ton. I'm sure other levelers would be even better, but its definitely on my list of "must haves" for engine swaps. :)

He was asking about them selling longer boom addons, not about one that's adjustable ;) But yes, I use the longest setting on mine as well.

I use my hoist on 1/2 ton extended right out and have the leveler on it but mine has a spot for a 22mm socket on either end instead of a handle. Works awesome. Another thing I had to do it jack the back of the car up, jack it up a bit move motor what you can, jack it up some more, move motor etc.
