ive go my tranny out, and clutch disk out. Note Im using a spec stage 3 here. I need to swap the pressure plate to my 1j R-154. Can i get the pressure plate out without removing the bell housing? TSRM doesnt make mutch sense to me. I asssume i can remove those snap rings and pull all the bearings, and loosen all the nuts on the cover and be done?

You can unbolt the PP without taking down the tranny, but you cannot replace it without dropping the tranny. The input shaft goes thru the TOB assembly which is connected to the PP, and will not come out unless the tranny is pulled.

Edit- the tranny is already out?....im not seeing the problem here now....

Umm.. you say you've got the transmission out.. yet you want to remove the pressure plate but not remove the bell housing??

if you've removed the tranny, then the pressure plate is the only thing left. In fact.. If you've removed the tranny, then you should have removed the pressure plate and pushed it as far toward the rear of the tranny as possible. Same with the disc.

R154 tranny is out of the car. I just cant get the shifter fork off the back of the pressure plate. Those 2 bolts dont wanna come off where the fork connects to the actual tranny. Can i remove the PP with out removing the shifter fork?

No worries at all, Scott. Everyone gets a free blonde moment now and again.

For future reference - next time you pull the tranny, just yank the fork out the side and pull the tranny off, don't bother with unbolting the PP through the access panels.

How is the tranny out of the car, and the PP AND the fork still in the car???? It would fall off the PP if it weren't clipped to the tranny.

I wasn't aware it was possible to pull the tranny with the fork still attached to the PP.

Al, the procedure in the TSRM states that you pull the inspection covers, pull the bolts holding the PP to the flywheel, and then pull the tranny out with the PP, fork, and disk all still on there.

We just think that's an awful lot of extra work, so we never do it this way anymore. :)
