No special tools needed. Remove the timing belt. Hold the gear from turning using a screwdriver or something and loosen the bolts. Then pull, or gently pry while alternating sides, the cam gears off.

Make sure that you don't mess up the timing. The timing mark on the existing cams or 0 degree mark on aftermarket cams, should be straight up, while Piston # 1 is all the way up and the crankshaft is also at 0 degrees.

Look on the cam between the cyl 1 and cyl 2 lobes. There is a spot there were you could put an adjustable wrench and have someone keep them from turning while you unwrench the bolt.

Well that tool is only meant to hold the cam gear from turning. I never nneded one and wouldn't get unless I used it alot. Maybe try a little breakfree to loosen things up. If all else fails, pull the valve cover and put a wrench on the camshaft itself. The torque on the cam gear bolts is only 36 ft-lb.

I come from a land down under
Leave the belt on hold the crank pully bolt with a 19mm socket on a breaker bar then undo the Cam bolts.....
(Usually just shocking a ratchet and socket on the cam pully bolts works fine)

I got some spare, high grade bolts and put one into one of the holes in the back cover. To "dampen the blow" a bit, I covered the bolt with some napkins I had lying around, and just enough so the cam gear would instantly meet the resistance of the napkins without turning at all. It prevented the bolt from being bent and didn't need any extra hands. Of course, with an impact wrench, this would all be over within 10 seconds or so (10 seconds taking your sweet time).

Well I do happen to have an impact wrench so that should help

Just put a 10mm socket on one of the two bolts behind the gear that hold the rear timing belt cover in place and have at it... the gear's spoke will bind against the socket and you're set.
