How to fix the Third brake light

Only the 89+ has LEDs. Unless he put them in there himself, in which case I would hope he could figure out how to fix them.

You should just be able to take the wing off, pull off the lense (screws or whatever, I don't have one), see why they aren't working. Could be a bad connection/solder or bad LED. Either way you can solder a in new LED using a soldering iron and new solder.

On the 89+ the center brake light is a sealed unit. You are going to have to replace the entire thing.

To remove the light you have to take off the center section of your tail. Then find the single screw in the center post that holds the led assembly in place. The light should slide out with the plate attached. The plate is held on the led bar with three screws.

Oh yeah... be sure to order a new gasket as well for when you put this all back together.
