How does one go about making use of the stock throttle body but going to direct cable and eliminating the linkage? I wanted to go JDM throttle body but it doesnt seem like there is a plethora of them out there so I was wondering how could I make my original throttle body controlled by just the cable alone. I was staring at my linkage earlier to see what I could do but Im kinda stumped.. Thanks

Sorry it's too much effort to click on a link! I'll copy and paste it to this thread! *just kidding*.. I know what ya mean :icon_razz It actually only took me and my bro about 20 minutes IF that to do it. And most of that was figuring out what we needed to use cause we had no previous "guide".

What you need(well.. what WE used):

  • jdm turbo, auto, throttle blade spinner thing
  • non turbo throttle cable (maybe auto)
  • throttle linkage stopper thingy

Here's a step by step of the throttle connection. Btw, you need turbo throttle body linkages, and an N/A throttle cable and some knowledge of how to use a grinder, a drill, and maybe some pliers.

(1) First off, we start with a stock stopper peice from the throttle body. This peice is used JUST for the stopper and springs so the throttle closes and opens perfect and will not throw codes for over opening. The red line is where the peice was cut in later pictures for clearance issues.

(2) Next, this peice i BELIEVE came off of a turbo, DONT quote me! I didn't see where jim pulled it off before he cut into it. But, any ways.. This peice is where the throttle cable will attach to, it has been cut as you can see. (used a grinder..)

(3) Here is peice number one and two put together.. showing how we fit them.

(4) Fourth, here is part number 1 mounted on the throttle body before it was cut for mounting purposes. We took pictures as we were figuring out how to get it to work.

(5) Fifth, Part number one mounted still but with the two stock springs hooked up.

(6) Sixth, this shows part one and two mounted on the throttle body with the springs attached.

(7) Seventh, this is all the peices mounted to the throttle body, after part one was cut for clearance issues. You can see in the picture we bent a peice of metal and cut some holes in it to hold the cable in a stationary position. Don't worry! We will be making a new peice that is longer and places the cable straight with the guide so there isn't any problems, this was purely mock up!

(8) Eighth, this is just a different view of picture 7. Showing the cut part number 1.

(9) Last of all! Another view of the mock up with all of the springs attached.

Btw.. my setup is "cleaner" than using the jdm tb and routing it that way. Why? Because with the jdm tb the throttle comes in from the top OVER your valve covers (mind you.. having a half circle of throttle doing this).. and then down.

With mine, it loops underneath and comes upwards. The mess is kept under the intake manifold and works JUST aswell. The bracket I made was just a 10 second thing to see if it would work. I will be soon making another bracket that is longer and puts the throttle cable straight on with the spinner thing so there is no bending of the throttle cable.

springs arent hard to remove, and you could probably take the nut off and remove the peices and modify them and put them back on, but making the little bracket might be hard while its on the car.

I have a JDM throttle body on hand that's just sitting around. BUT i am an automatic... Is there something additional i have to do to make this work??? I heard the auto has some cable coming from it to sense the throttle position or something?

Thanks.
