How to check engine light code?

Whenever a make a pull in a larger gear like 4 or 5 when I am lets say going 45mph? After the pull, I get a check engine light. I want to pull the code, but I have to put two wires together to get the light blinking. Which one are they?

Also, if I just rip in from first to second (like when I was racing a vette last night) then I dont get a check engine light at all.

i'd say its a speed sensor. is your wire cut?

yea sounds like the speed wire.

i know i had mine connected but my speedo cable was shot and if i made a hard pull for more than 8 seconds it would throw a CEL.
