How safe/strong is my motor?

Ok heres the deal in my 91 DD supra. i just did a rebuild with stock (reused) pistons, rods, rodbolts, mainbolts. Thats pretty much all (internally) that was reused. I installed new rings, mains, rods, oil pump with ss crossover, and a cometic 2.0 MHG and ARP studs. my rod bearings were at 28 thou I belive (the max allowed per TSRM). I recently purchased my new setup (as of now i am on stock turbo still breaking in the motor) I now have (but have yet to install) a turbonetics 62-1 maft pro and some associated mods (in sig). my question is just how strong are stock reused rodbolts and the loose clearance? Should i be building a backup longblock or should i trust this block to my 400rwhp goal. Excuse the semi noob question but the answers i get here will end my confusion.

Thanks
BJ

IMHO, 400 shouldn't be a problem at this point, as long the head was prepped, assembled correctly without cutting corners,..etc. make sure you tune conservatively as you are probably at the limit (did you inspect the rods, pistons,.etc?). and I don't see anything about clutch mentioned or fuel system upgrade. I am a beginner just like you, search is your best friend on SM. Good luck with your build, soon you will want more and more power.

What ^ he said, did you have your rods checked, balanced, shot peened cryo'd, etc? If I were you I'd at least upgrade the bolts in the bottom end to ARP hardware. On stock fuel injectors 400 is the max I'd ever try to push it. Wideband is your friend.

yes it will be on a upgraded fuel system. the rods are 100 percent bone stock minus the bearings that loose clearance is bothering me

yea while you was on the bottom end of the engine you should of used arp hardware thru out the engine..as far as the engine taking 400hp yes...how much was the headgasket torqued down to? did you get the head machine and the block decked? with the proper tuning you should be fine i guess..personally i dont like the 62-1 trim turbo i heard so much unreliabilty from them..57 trim would of been good enough...

Since its already back together increase the spring pressure to the oil cooler bypass line. Make sure to run an extra quart of oil in the oil pan. I think your tolerance on the rods and the stock rod oil exit hole might be the downfall of that motor. If you keep enough oil in it and don't detonate it, it should last a couple years.

Clifton made a very similar setup last more than 3 years, it was ultimately detonation that was the demise of the motor. Another system failure caused the detonation, not careless tuning.

It'll be fine BJ....really. My first engine was close to the same thing, minus ARPS and a MHG... and it lasted through 18 psi on pump gas for a couple of years.
