How much would it cost to legalize a car from CANADA?

Im turnin 17 and my parents want to buy me acar for my graduation. I really want the 1jzgte supra but the original not the swap. I have seen a couple for like 6000 and would really like one. The problem is how would i legalize it. I live in Florida so i know japanese cars are able to become legal. I also want to know how much it would cost to legalize it and everything. Please anything is helpful and plse i know it will cost alot so dont say its not worth it and to buy one here in the US. Thanks HECTOR

Not worthwhile, IMO. I live in Canada, and I could BUY one outright, but driving a right hand drive vehicle in a left hand drive country is plain dangerous.

prolly confusing and weird to get used to as well.

best bet would be to buy a car already in the states thats been swapped, all the ease of registration, left hand drive, non cross country shipping, turn key car without the hassles of everything else.

On top of that plus your age group, the RHD car, and the fact that it's classified as "2 door sports + turbo" is probably going to slaughter you on insurance.

That part is great... once.

The problem is trying to make left hand turns. You can't see past the oncoming traffic because you're on the wrong side of the car, and when you make a mistake you get t-boned where you sit instead of having all the protection of the passenger's side seat.

Right hand turns I find to be worse. And I drive a genuine JZA70 so I know. I say if its what you want then who cares how much it costs. Just save a little money if it costs more than you have. There are enough supras already in Canada that you dont have to worry about them not having one to sell you. Hell go to www.abbotsfordjapanauto.com they have 2 sitting on the lot right now that are all ready to go and already in the country which is the best part.

When they made the rules, it wasn't a problem - Japanese cars weren't all that desirable in the first place, the only people who would buy something like that were collectors who were never going to actually drive them on a street.

Now, it's starting to become a problem. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the government steps in shortly and says that you are required to get the car converted to LHD before you can license it for use on the street.

I wouldn't be the least bit upset, either.

If i were to get an import RHD car like a TTR supra I would only drive it once a month maybe a saturday or sunday which ever is prettier. Thats it.

I have driven one. I'd love to know how you get around the left hand turn into oncoming traffic problem... as far as I can see, you have two choices, either screw up traffic, or risk your life.

On the other hand, at least I don't have to worry about RHD car drivers increasing the insurance rate for the entire province, because every guy I knew who got into an accident while driving one is DEAD.
