get a full exhaust, meaning......turbo elbow, downpipe, 3'' exhaust and straight through mufler...intake as well. There is an amazing amount of power waiting to be unleashed due to the restrictive turbo elbow and cat on downpipe. I just got done doing a full exhaust and i cant believe the difference. Also shim the wastegate (around 1.50 and easy to do) to about 10lbs....if the exhaust isnt getting you there....and you'll spank him. Thats saying his car is stock.

ACTUALLY....i would fix your car first....beating on a car with rod knock is not cool and can lead to costly repairs. From what everyone heres told me, if you can hear the knock over your engines natural sounds then the bearings probably fried already, and waiting to do damage. That being said...racing with it would inevitably make it worse or cause a massive engine catastrophe! :1zhelp: lol seriously id look into rebuilding the bottom end first.

To answer your question... stock for stock.

Supra Turbo: 3535lbs, 254torque, 232hp.
MR2 Turbo: 2888lbs, 142torque, 200hp.

So... how much wieght per foot pound of torque?
Supra: 13.9
MR2: 10.3
Winner: Supra

So... how much weight per HP?
Supra: 15.2
MR2: 14.4
Winner: MR2

How much extra HP do you need to add before you have more HP per pound than the MR2? 13hp at the crank. How hard is it to get 13hp at the crank? A $20 boost controller from DocJonez would do that with about 3 minutes of work.

That said, please realize that racing in a car that has mechanical problems of any sort will likely make the problems worse. Not a big deal if you plan on rebuilding it anyhow, but don't race with something that you need to get around when you don't have the budget to fix it.

I should point out that a boost controller is not the first mod I would purchase - it's just the easiest way to get a few hp basically for free. Even running one of his MBCs at stock boost levels would get you at least that much extra power.

I'd go the same route that mtoxracerfss suggested - and add the MBC afterwards.

At that point, you'll have enough power that you're not going to win, you're going to embarrass him. :D

launch it right, dont shift like a noob, exhaust, and your good, they are fast, he will kick your ass off of the line, its when you hit the 40mph mark that you catch him and pass.
