How much boost will a stock gasket hold?? Using ARP studs and torqed to 75lbs could I hold 16psi?

Plan to install stock HG with Permatex Copper or Brake quiet. Will this work ok..:1zhelp:

its all in the tuning....... stock headgasket can hold plenty of boost as long as your not detonating... all a MHG really does is give you more headway for the occasional hiccup :) well to an extent anyways....Not saying a stock HG is as good as a metal one but for mildly modded and well tuned they are fine I ran 16+psi for a LONG time with stock headbolts and HG never had a problem but then again YMMV...

I come from a land down under
:withstupi Head gasket is a burst panel for the motor!
I'd rather lose a gasket then do serious mechanical damage.
(not calling ya stupid Nick but they don't have an "I'm with Nick smilie")

Yes block being flat is the key to success :bigthumb:

What happens when fuel presure regulator fails :runaway::3d_frown:

Better a gasket than trying to bondo a hole in a block :naughty:

Grimjack ran 20psi on a 57trim for a while before his blew. As long as you have plenty of fuel and its torqued down nice and tight. I have mine at 75ft.lbs and its held at 12-14psi on a stock CT-26 for about 22k miles.

Cool. I will make sure the prep work is good. Will the permatex copper spray work as good as the brake quiet.. I have read alot about the brake quiet lately..

I have 46k miles on an OEM gasket installed on a motor with 164k miles on it now, but I have not gone over 13psi on purpose.. Usually I run at 10psi.

Close - it was a stock turbo, and I think the 20psi is what killed it, to be honest. I ran 16psi for nearly a year without any problems as well.

As always, YMMV, be careful and get it tuned right before you go this route.

Ok.. so when I get it together this it what I will have completed. Stock HG @ 80lbs (arp studs). Walbro, 550's, afpr. Maft Pro with IAT, Map, boost etc.. Wideband, Hard Pipes, Custom exhaust(no Cat). Apexi Intake.. When I tune I will start with low boost(10psi) and then work my way up matbe to 15psi.. I really only need to keep this thing together for about 18 months and then I will beef up the bottom end..:biglaugh:

for only 18 months?

it takes one second to pop a motor. If it is your only car I def would NOT be fiddling with it.

I run 10 PSI on a stock rebuilt JDM 7M-GTE until I can afford a MHG, studs and fuel upgrade, it does ok and I only feed it 93 octance, hasn't detonated on me ever so Hopefully it hoilds up till I can pull the head and do it right, also wanna port polish and new valves and springs too.

One of the original, or first, NA-T's was running about 500 rwhp when he blew apart the ring lands on the pistons, while the OEM style HG stayed in place.
