Is the radiator support bolted in or welded in? I think it's welded in, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, has anyone ever replaced just the radiator support? I need to replace mine. If I can't I'll have to get another shell (no problem), and then swap my entire car into it. I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Thanks

yup it is spot welded in, dont cut out the old one, if your buddy's shop does auto body repair they would have a spot welder remover, a special drill bit, that is to remove the original spot welds. then have it spot welded back in, really shouldnt need bondo to do any of that work.

<-- wishes i had a MKIII body repair manual

I've got one... now I just wish I had all the fun tools and somewhere to use them. My friend who originally bought the car was wonderful enough to throw in a TSRM, TEWD and MKIII Collision Repair Manual.... and a Haynes. I guess he was trying to make sure he had EVERYTHING covered.

The hobby shop I will have access to soon (driving suspension on base right now) is a DIY shop. I'll have to ask if they have a spot weld remover bit.

As far as the bondo goes, that is merely for cosmetics when I weld up all the unneccessary holes and divets in the engine bay. If I can, I'll have the radiator support stitch welded in for extra strength.

The section of the radiator support that you see is what I cut out, and will be cutting out again when I weld in the new radiator support.
