Hey,

I have a leak coming from behind the water neck/thermostat area, I think it may be the metal coolant line that wraps around the block that is undet the exhaust manifold.

Has anyone replaced the gasket between this and the water pump before? If so, what all do you need to do, is it required to take the turbo, exhaust manifold, and other big things off?

Thanks,

Alex

there are bolts securing the water line to the block, look in the TSRM for there locations and try to feel for them, take those out so you can move the water line around. you can get to the two nuts/bolts (forgot) with the turbo in place, but its tight. use a wratcheting box wrench.

Lagged is right, it is possible. There are 2 bolts securing the pipe where the gasket is on the back of the front cover, there are 2 screws securing it along the way towards the back of the block, they aren't too hard to locate since they go into the block close to where the head and block join, so it's pretty high up. and There is one more screw on the other side of the block that holds the little branch pipe, the one that ends up connecting to the throttlebody/intake system.

Well, do you think it would be ok to make a silicon gasket for that water pipe? The local Toyota dealership's parts is closed down for now.

my flange was bent and i didnt notice it, until i went to fill up the motor with water, i noticed when it allll leaked out from there. so i reallly didnt feel like taking the whole thing off, so i made a gasket out of a piece of rubber that i cut from an old IC hose. that worked fine for a few thousand miles until i had the motor out again for a rebuild, at that point i just straightend it back out again.

so in short, you can make a gasket.
