Okay...I tried to do a search under "engine identification"...I was unsuccessful I have an '88 was told the motor was replaced. Problem is it has a case of rod-knock. I have an extra motor I got from another guy...but he is not sure what year it is, he thinks it is from a '91. So if anyone knows how I can determin the year...it would be great. If it is a '91 will it work with my car???

Thanks,
Dirck

you can interchange the blocks. if you take the oil pan off, an early 89 and older will have a 6m crank, and mid 89+ will have a 7m crank.

you can put a 6m crank in a 89+ block, but to put a 7m crank in a pre 89 i'm pretty sure you have to machine some clearances.

nope, they're direct fit either way

it doesn't really matter which block, they're the same through the years, the only real issues is GE vs GTE...

All 1989 Supras have the 6M crank, and the cranks will interchange either way.

yes, but all parts will bolt up just fine...

not like it really matters unless you're going on an all-out build...

or anal about such things like IJ *hides*

-rich87x2 (the s/n disappeared from here for some reason) said the 7m crank wasnt a direct fit on his pre89 block. he had pics posted, but like i said i cant find them here.

jeff- thats odd. the 89 i saw i swear it had a 7m crank. i could have been imaging things, it was quite some time ago.

My 90 engine has the 7M crank (of course) but it is not a block with extra reinforcement. So, that must have come later and it is even rarer because there are less half as many 90, 91, and 92 supras as there are 87s alone.
