hey guys, i posted a few weeks ago about my clutch loosing its preasure. there were no visable leaks anywhere before i took it apart. i tried bleeding the system and it came back halfway. anyway, i inspected the line, the line is fine from the slave to master, so i went ahead and pulled the slave AND the master(that wasnt fun) and they appear to look alright, how would i tell if there fouled up? the slave is 2 years old, not a toyota OEM part, its a remanufactured parts store part. and the slave looks like its old but i pulled the seals on both and i didnt see any interal leaking.... im confused

the primary (master) will leak under the dash on your shoe, the secondary(slave) will leak under the car on the ground..

Edited, if no leaks? then id say you have air in the system? but i dunno,, i should have read your post better.. sry..

If the slave is bad, it will leak fluid out to the world. If a master is bad, it 'might' leak fluid out to the world (and still work until the fluid level gets so low that air gets in).....or it might be letting the fluid leak internally, and not apply pressure to the slave. The fluid slips past the cup seal inside, and then may or not leak out to the world.

Usually if the pedal starts getting 'easy', and the clutch does not release to let you put it in gear, then the master is leaking internal.

Cold weather can cause the seals to shink up a bit and create this problem. Warm/hot weather will keep the seals soft and a bit swollen, so no problem.

In a pinch once in winter, I took a hairdryer to the master till it was has hot as it was gonna get (like 10 min.), and it worked till it got cold again.

well i have them both off of the car, i inspected them and the seals looked fine and they seemed to be alright, there was no leaking to the world from either, and nothing leaking to the inside, alls i know is my clutch lost preasure. this happeend 2 years ago when my slave took a shit, but im just lost now... everything SEEMS to be alright, i guess i could jsut replace both and see what happens... if the clutch looses preasure it could only be three things right? the line, master and slave? because when i bled the slave before when i got stuck a few miles from home, i bled the system it came back halfway and i was able to drive it home, its been sitting for a week and i tried bleeding it again and nothing...

My master leaked around the carpet.
My slave didn't show signs of leaking under the car, but it was bad.
Its not air if you drive the car every day, or at least a couple of times a week, never noticed it before or its getting significantly worse quickly. Unless of course you have a leaker.
