How do you get rid of waterspots on paint???

This week I had the sprinklers on by my car and one side got some spray on it. Since it was a little dusty, the water spots were showing.

Last night I washed it with Dawn dishsoap and water (It's black so I don't want to do it in the sun) and I still have the waterspots on one side of the fender. They didn't come out even after three washings and drying it. Since the car is freshly painted (only about a month ago) I don't want to try anything drastic like rubbing compound, vinegar, etc...

Any ideas???

Oh, and I did search here and on SF.

meguirs cleaner wax. only thing i can think of. its got some rubbin compound in it and should take then off. then you need to keep some good carnabua wax on there to protect the paint.

Meguiar's huh....I know they have about a thousand products. I'll call the place that painted it tomorrow and see if they can help me. I can swing by the paint store also, they have all the Meguiar's stuff.

Yes, the cleaner wax will get it our Chris. and its alled the cleaner wax as well.. lol.
It works great.

Damn...DON'T use dish soap to wash the car. It totally dries out the paint...use Meguiar's Gold Class Car wash.

And yes, to get rid of the water spots, just use a cleaner wax, that should take care of it. You can use the Meguiar's, but I haven't ever tried it, I just always use Zymol cleaner wax, that stuff is like magical...:love:

ooo dish soup...bad idea! To keep her clean 'n sexy, get some quality product. Also, do a good waxin as well. Maybe phone up the place where you got your car painted and see if they have any suggestions on what waxes/soaps you should be using.

nah, dish soap is pretty abrassive and isn't good for the paint. I've always used a turtle wax brand soap and just got it good and frothy - then a nice wax afterwards

Since they are fairly new spots, a polish or cleaner wax should work. For older spots you would use a profesional (not stuff you buy at pep boys) grade polish to rub out the spots. Im talking about spots that have been pitting the clearcoat for years.

Sounds like you have pretty hard/mineralized water. I have the same problem and its a PITA.

How is dish soap abrasive? It is a liquid like any other form of car soap. Now whats in the soap is a different story. I dont see a problem using dish soap to clean your car, occasionally. It cleans really well, but it has its down sides. One of them being it pretty much removes any wax on the paints surface. Id only use dish soap right before I was going to give my car a thorough waxing.

sure, it does clean really well but it does take off all the wax...And, once you've gone through the wax, now you're working on the clear coat.

ditto on using meguireres cleaner wax, OR i use zymol cleaner wax, polish, then the carnubeua...? wax, stuff works awsome and gets rid of those marks and helps keep it that way

It depends on the water spots. I had spots that were so bad I had to search for something to take them off. I tried everything I could get my hands on until I found the glass polish from Griot's Garage. This stuff is the BOMB! It even makes your glass feel silky smooth like a freshly waxed paint. It even improves the performance of your wipers.

Whenever I am going out to hang with the Supras I wash the car and then hit the windows with the lighter stuff (there are two different strengths). WOW!

OMG NOONE USES THE ABSORBER!!!??? It makes your car look like its been waxed everytime i use it. It can be used for about 3 years with normal use, need only one, isnt hurt by any chemical from a car.

i see no waterspots. And in arizona they have really hard water and used it there when i was there and even washed the car in the sun and still came out lookin like it was freshly waxed :naughty:
