You'll need a spacer kit that will mount into the stock location and fill the 2nd din. They are black plastic and can be bought at any car audio place. ~$20.
When you buy a deck it'll come with a metal sleeve, that'll fit into the plastic bracket. The only hard part is the wiring and those diagrams are all over the internet.

no metal sleave on the one's I've done, the metal brackets on the side of the stereo get bolted directly to the sides of the head unit...

the install kit you buy will just put a cubby hole under the stereo, it's pretty simple if you have the original stereo still...

i did the same. bolt the brackets right to the head unit, bought a wiring harness for like $8 that plugged right into the stock, spent like $15 in the trim piece and little cubby to go under it.

Use the factory brackets, go to Toyota and buy a single-DIN box to mount under it (Part number 55521-16030), it's under $6.00 from Toyota. Pick up a harness adaptor for like $5-10, then put it all together.

There's no need for anything aftermarket (except the adapter harness, and the new stereo -- naturally), there's no need to trim the factory cutout, and there's no need for that damn mounting sleeve. Toyota uses proper brackets from the factory, use them.

Don't use a dash kit, use a Toyota pocket, and the factory bracket.

DONT use a cage

DONT cut anything

If you have the factory radio then DONT cut any wires. Go to CarToys, Best Buy, Circuit City, Whatever, and buy a Metra 70-1761 Wire harness.
