How do i line up the distributor and cam

Yes i searched a hundred times so i found nothing

how do i know if the cam.s gear is lined up on the correct tooth with the dist gear tooth...so the timing isnt off

well someone out here probley has a better way but this is who the hanes book says...

-make sure the motor is on at top dead center on the compression stroke

-then find on the distributer where the no. 1 spark is

-then while slidin the distributer into the head have the rotor end up moving to the no.1 spark

Note* the no.1 one spark should be by the bolt hole on the cap.
also while puting the distributer in the rotor will rotate to line up the gears so you will have to put the rotor ahead to compensate.
