How did this happen?

Ok... so how on Earth did I fry two out of three circuits inside my 7m-gte igniter?

I've done every test I can think of on the igniter and all came out negative. The igniter will trigger one coil output, but not the other.

You don't hear about igniters dying all that often, and mine had certainly been working fine prior to this - and then it just wouldn't start one morning.

*sigh* have to find another one.

Ok, so maybe it's not the igniter. I just picked up a 2nd hand igniter and replaced it - still won't start.

I need some help from the 7M experts.

Bit of background:

Car was running perfectly for about 5 days after my rebuild (BHG), then one morning it wouldn't start.

I held the #1 spark plug lead up to the cam covers and i can't get it to spark. Tried the same with #3 - no luck.

I've done all the ignition system tests in the TSRM and all were fine, except for the igniter test. (put 3v into the 4pin plug while the car's ignition is on and check the ignition coil wire for continuity) This was fine for the 3rd coil but the other two didn't seem to work.

At this point i tried a replacement igniter, no change.

The car just seems to crank over and over, but it doesn't start.

The car is a stock 7m-gte MA70 auto RHD - Its got 250 km on the clock since I rebuilt it after blown head gasket. It's got 40 thou oversized semi-forged pistons, new 2mm HKS metal head gasket, ARP studs, all new bearings, rings, etc. The only mods I've made are to remove the EGR system by blocking it off on the back of the head, intake chamber, etc and removing the two VSVs under the intake chamber (FPU and EGR). The FPU vsv vacuum hoses are just connected together and the one for the EGR vsv is just blocked off completely.

Any ideas?

Very much appreciated,
Tom
