starter bump. get a breaker bar on the bolt with an extension, i used a 2 ft. piece of pipe with it, rest it against the ground and just crank. dont start it though, maybe pull the efi fuse to be safe.

A long breaker bar and socket that fits the bolt (22mm IIRC). Place the breaker bar so its under the car to the drivers side and make sure its not going to catch anything on its way to the ground. Remover the spark plugs (so your not fighting compression) and bump the starter. I've usually had to position the breaker bar off the ground and let it smack the ground. You might have to reset and redo it a few time before it will break free....

Yes it will work with the timing belt off, the starter turns the crankshaft directly. Be VERY careful though, you need to be safe about it or you could get hurt or damage your car. DO NOT "crank" the engine, we are talking about a key flick here, you want to turn it to the start position for less than a second. Make sure nobody is standing around the front of the car, and DEFINITELY pull the EFI relay for safety.

1 more question.. is there any way to get it off of an auto without an impact gun or bumping the starter because i need to get 1 off at the junkyard and i wont be able to start any cars up and i dont have an impact gun

the right sized socket, one long ass breaker bar, and a couple people with good leverage. to stop the crank itself from turning... not sure

If you're going to pull one off from the junkyard, you'll have to use the SST, and a long breaker bar. I have an SST I made to remove the crank damper bolt, I could let you borrow it. PM me, I'm in Gardena, 90247, I can ship it to you.

Where-as this isn't the SAFEST way to do it, if you're not worried about the rest of the engine, you can always throw a thicker screwdriver or ratchet into the flex plate holes to keep the crank from turning, and hit the front bolt with a good sized breaker bar, just remember those bolts were originally torqued to nearly 200ft/lbs and can take alot to break loose.

Use a strap wrench on the crank pully with a long snipe and get a friend to hold it. Then put a breaker bar with a long snipe onto the bolt and giver a turn. Ive used this technique lots when the impact doesnt have enough jam to break it loose.

Yeah, a tool to hold the crank pulley in place is the best way if you cannot use an impact or it won't get it off. Either get the correct SST, or use a generic holder of some sort.

i always put a crowbar in the inspection cover on the driveplate teeth, two people of course. i dont put it through the driveplate holes as it tended to bend the driveplate out of shape :)

When i removed mine it acutally took 2 people, One bumping the starter, and the other using the breaker bar method, we had to bump the starter and jerk the bolt simultaneously. It was no fun. Good luck!

Oh, you can do this at a junkyard, just take a jump box, and hotwire the starter if necessary!

Do you guys not realize you need to rest the breaker bar on the floor?! Someone is going to kill themselves. That starter has a lot more torque than a person can resist.
