Dammit, I hate to get picky, but I have to.

First up, we have an AFM, not a MAF. They both have honeycombs. The MAF can live without it, the AFM cannot.

If you really have a MAF, which means your car is equipped with a MAFT or a full standalone ECU, then you needn't worry.

If your car is still using the 'stock' AFM, and someone has removed the honeycomb, it's toast, and you'll need to get a new one.

You can replace just the honeycomb grim.... I took it out and put it in my lex afm housing from suprasport. So, find someone with a dead sensor, and buy the honeycomb

Hmm...That's not good. I've never had one in there. Although, my idle is just fine. BUT...I have noticed that when it's wet outside or rains, the first 10 minutes of driving, it runs really rich and idles from 500 to 700 and acts like it wants to die, after a few minutes of driving, it goes away. Could THIS be the reason why it does so or would it just be the fact that my air filter sits below my headlight?;)

The honeycomb is what sets up the vortex that our AFM sensor "sees"...if you want any kind of accuracy, you need the honeycomb.

Yes. If the air is tumbling, the "vortex generator" will not be able to create the proper wave form of air to move the electronics at the right frequency. You will still get a reading, just not an accurate one.

Grim, some MAF's act up with out, some don't. Go figure. Even on the same car. Small variances in the air filter or who knows what all play a roll.
