My knocking, well i think its that at least, is making me rebuild my motor.... Now i need some advice. Should i try and rebuild it myself? I am somewhat familiar at wrenching (except for those stupid fenders :3d_frown: ) And i am confident in my skills. Is just that time scares me. roughly how long did it take you guys to do it and is there any tutorial on how to rebuild it? if there is i would like some sort of thing like this before i try doing it myself. 2000 for bottom end engine rebuild is not fun, especially if i can get the parts for half of that. for 2000 i could probably get a machined head, MHG, new vale seals, new stem seals etc... or should i just swap out for a jdm? i am somewhat comfortable with the JDM engine thing just getting a clean one is a mission at times but assuming it gets a nice MHG, it should be fine right. or maybe i could get one with the ARP and goodies for the price of that. Any recommendations would be fine...

doesnt hurt to have someone throw in some good words as they watch over ya. if you have the funds and money shouldnt take you long.
I planned mine to be down for 3 months but of course that was pre katrina and now its slowly getting back together. Just gotta finish lapping the block then she'll be ready to be put back together.

Dont try to rebuild it yourself. It requires a lot of precision and will require some machine shop work regardless to mill the head/block so you may as well just buy the parts and have them throw it all together correctly.

Give this guy a call, his name is Graeme, he will take care of you. He builds the majority of the mk3 supra guys engines in the GTA, he knows what he is doing.

It is simple to do, I pulled mine myself in about an hour.

Do you have an engine hoist?

no, any idea where to get oine for temp use?

Search on 411.ca for tool/equipment rental places in your area. I currently have one but its not mine to hand out since it doesn't belong to me.

And what does the 1700 include? you supply parts or is he buying them?

hes supplying them. all of the gaskets, valve stem seals, MHG but i dont know which one as i might pay a little more to get the desired one and the bottom end things. But im not even gonna bother trying to rebuild before i do a leak down and a compression test.

I can get my hands on an engine hoist if required. Whereabouts in Mississauga are you?

Again, I won't be back from university until early May...

Edit: Hoist would not be a rental... I would steal it from my dad  ... aka no rental fee's :D

^^ Sweet. I go every once in a while (Whenever it is humanly possible.) I'll definitely see you then during the summer. Donno how long it will take me to get my supra running (it has this mystery idle problem which I have been unable to repair despite tearing almost the whole engine apart,) but I will definitely be around in my dad's red BMW if it still isn't running.
