its comign from the passenger side, very very back of the exhaust manifold. My question is, what could possibly be smoking from there? it is not coolant for sure. i was thinking valve cover gaskets drippign a bit of oil onto there and causing the smoke, or maybe my manifold is cracked? Also if i had a bad valve cover gasket, coudl it cause me to have lower oil pressure? ANy help or ideas is appreciative. It was a little embarassign to say the least, beign stuck in traffic b/c of a bank robbery and cops lookign at me :3d_frown:

Am I correct in assuming its blue smoke you're seeing, as you outruled coolant so quickly? It would have been the 1st thing I mentioned...

Valve cover gaskets will not cause a drop in oil pressure, unless of course it has all leaked out. ;) I would think though if it were valve cover gaskets it would take like 30 seconds to see that oil was running down the side of the head.

I have that problem too I think. Its just a little puff of smoke sometimes right? In my case it IS oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets onto the exhaust manifold. I'm thinking a new valve cover gasket will fix the problem.

Sounds like your exhaust manifold is leaking at the back. Check that the studs are still tight back there, maybe either the nut or the whole stud itself is no longer tight.

Well if you've recently used any types of bolt busters(WD40) to loosen anything or taking something off, then that might be your answer...

i had that for a while, im prety sure it was just an exhaust leak between the head and the mani, or the mani and turbo. I never figured it out becasue my motor blew a few days after i noticed. Im almost positive the motor blowing was unrelated

Update: Okay, this is nto from under the exhasut plenum. it is coming from the back area of the block and head. If i rev it quickly to initiate boost, it shoots a small little puff of smoke. Also when i reached back there, it felt like something is like leakign or squirting back there, but i tried seeing what color, but it is all grimey back there and it turns out black -_-. Any ideas now guys?

again check the EGR.
The cooler is located on the back of the head on the PASSENGER SIDE. it is held on by like 8 bolts. IT has a gasket that could be leaking. The EGR does wrap around to the drivers side. It would make sense that it is your problem.

please look at
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/em/EM_32.html
you will see the EGR cooler on the back of the head.

You could block the ports where they come through on the drivers side but that would not eliminate the EGR cooler. to eliminate the cooler, you would need to tap and block the port that connects to the #6 exhaust port. I think that wuld be very hard or impossible to do with the head in the car.
