HKS Super Drager vs a Dynomax Ultraflo

There's been quite a bit of exhaust threads, but unfortunately I could not find much on people who owned Dynomax ultraflo's, and almost no videos.

The car currently has a 3 inch exhaust going to a HKS Super Drager, I believe the tip is 4 inches. The sound isn't terribly loud, but to me the exhaust looks a little bit ridiculous. Compared to videos I've seen of other mufflers (Medallion, Apexi N1, etc etc) it doesn't sound that bad. But when I get out on the road, it tends to drone, and again, it just sounds loud.

So I'm looking at getting an UltraFlo, which will be a twin tip, 2.5 inches.

It will be going from a 3 inch to a 2.5 inch. Currently I'm not sure about a catalytic converter at this point, but I probably will throw one on.

My question to you guys is, from what you've seen, will this really quiet my exhaust any more? Or am I just wasting money?

I want to keep some flow, and I like increased sound, but the exhaust just looks too big for the car, and depending on how the car is feeling, it gets a bit ricey above 3k rpms.

I had that exact muffler, on a custom system. Originally, it was a straight pipe to the muffler, and it was so loud and droning I would get a headache after more than 1 hour of driving. It set off car alarms everywhere, and my GF could hear me from at least a mile away...in the city.

I put another muffler inline and that quieted things down a bit, but there was still a lot of drone throughout the RPM range. The twin outlets are also very widely spaced - making the muffler look a bit weird.

Also, on the HKS dragger system, the pipe coming in to the rear muffler is considerably bigger than 3" (85mm iirc), which will result in some backpressure-causing diameter changes.

I'd say stick with the dragger or sell it and make a whole new system. I moved from the old system to a HKS dragger (although I cannot comment on it as my car is still under construction)

Edit: I had my system on a turbo. take all of my comments on drone and then multiply the expected loudness by 2...

It was on there when I bought it. Wasn't my choice to have a muffler that I can fit my foot into.

I'd say stick with the dragger or sell it and make a whole new system. I moved from the old system to a HKS dragger (although I cannot comment on it as my car is still under construction)

So the dynomax droned on your car pretty bad. Eh. I guess I'll keep searching for another muffler. I could almost live with the sound of the dragger, almost. But the look of it on the car just kills it for me.

Whatever I do, I get the feeling I'm going to have to toss a resonator on there.

The dragger is considered one of the bet exhausts for staying silent...on a turbo car.

N/A is a totally different ballgame, you don't have a large restriction in your exhuast quieting it down...

By restriction, are you talking about the turbine from the turbo?

Yes.

The turbo acts like a rolling wheel of sound blockades.

yep, my bro and I have basicly the same exhaust (his is smaller, but same setup besides that) and his is WAY louder...

He's got a MKII 5M N/A (for now) and I got a MKIII with a 7MGTE.

arg im tired of people whineing about exhuast drone, PEOPLE you dont know real drone until you run straight pipe, no muffler, no cats, no resionators NOTHING.
but then again im not a whimp about sound, i like my wide open exhuast. . . .

if you want to solve your exhaust problems and dont like the muffler sell that dragger to someone who likes it and get a tanabe or something along that lines with a inline resionator that'll quiet things down alot esspecially the closer the resionator is to the muffler.

I'm definitely going to sell the dragger. I doubt I'll be going turbo anytime soon, so I really have no use for it.
