I'm looking to up my ignition system and was wondering if anybody has any experience with the HKS unit. I've noticed a lot of people already have MSDs. Any input would be appreciated.

hks all the way. made a huge diff w/ a sp67. ign would break up at anything past 26psi and the dli solved the problem. not only that, even idle, revving the motor and part throttle was improved.
when speaking to many of the high hp guys (larry@sp, daveh, reg r, etc) they all rec'd the hks over the msd.

i was wondering why its an issue or whats happening i mean? is the boost blowing the spark out? i saw a bit of an occasional miss or hessitation at higher boosts? (12-15psi) just for a second. so i tried gapping the plugs down a hair and havent had a problem sense.. but im sure it gets worse at higher pressures?

thanks good info..

I tried everything with mine to fix a high boost igntion miss. I changed coils, wires, plugs, colder plugs, plug gaps, and ignitors. I even bypassed the ignition switch and went 12 volts right off the battery and nothing fixed the problem. I then went DLI and once I got it working right(ground issues) it took care of the problems I was having.

On an extreme end, MSD is used by just about every top fuel and funny car team. They make a very good product. But yes, some of the higher hp Supras Ive seen that needed an upgrade did HKS. I remember one commenting the MSD just didnt work on our Supra well.

afaik they only make 2. DLI and DLI II. we need the DLI. no there isnt a specific harness for our car but not really much to wire in. it can all be done under the hood.

my earlier post about the sp67 i was speaking of x-man's car as he wasnt a member here at the time. after his success im def looking into purchasing in the future.

also to note, i think i heard msd actually makes a harness for our car if you can believe that. however, they are hooked up differently. the msd is wired in series while the dli is wired in parallel.

I come from a land down under
I'm using 2x MSD Dis4's to get 6 channels along with 6x CDI Coils.

I burnt a piston on the dyno a few months back and it vented to the crankcase so there was massive blowby, I had to drive 50 KM's home and apart from sounding like a WRX it ran fine.

I shut it down to degrease it and by this time there was oil leaking from every hole including the air cleaner so I was preparred to drag it back into the workshop with the chainhoist but was surprised that it still fired even with all 6 plugs swimming in oil!
