So I've heard different things everywhere I read. For replacing the headgasket with the HKS mhg 1.2mm (86mm bore) is it okay to use that on a stock bore? or do I have to get an 84mm bore like the one Titan sells. I didn't do as much homework as I should have but everyone that sells the HKS's says they fit right on a 7MGTE...
---Basically, people that sell them say they'll fit on a stock bored motor, everyone on here seems like they're saying you have to bore it .40 over to fit a 86mm mhg. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

The standard bore wont work on an engine that has been bored over, simply because the gasket would be smaller than the cylinder bore. The only thing that I can see that might become a problem is that the little bit of extra bore creates a small area between the head and block. I've never had any experience running the over bore head gaskets though, so take it with a grain of salt.

HG size equal or greater then bore size, never undersize. I personally wouldn't use a HG with a larger bore then the motor but many people do.

hks hg is 85mm bore last i checked. the cometic is 86mm bore. never seen a hg wit han 83mm bore for the 5m or 7m. that extra area doesnt do anything but lower the comp slightly. wont be a problem at all.

Andy - yes you can. Like you said, the pistions are smaller in diameter and the Cometic MHG should be slightly larger ( a few thousands) than the cylinder bore. If your bore diameter is 84mm, you want a MHG that's sized for 84mm.

I've gotta get this AEM up and running. Maybe then the car will scare me enough to want to stop really, really fast! LOL!

so I finally had the time to start pulling a few small things off the motor tonight and notice a couple of things..first, this motor had to have been taken apart before because there is a ton of gasket-maker (rtv). used on the valve covers thermostat houseing and the coolant hoses. also, i've read of people using the 5m or 7mge oil filter conversion thing and this one has the same thing made by aisin? i know i bought a new oil pump made by aisin, is this an aftermarket company or did stock 7mgte's come with aisin parts too? the fan clutch was aisin also. there are new water lines (the tiny ones) wrapping around the block all nice and shiny, motor mounts are painted and the whole motor is really clean in general. even has EGR block off plates :) unless Soshin USA put that off while cutting every hose wire and plastic piece on it.. also, my friend gave me his garrett M24 a/r .50 turbo, in size it's fairly larger than the ct26 but does anyone know any info on it? can't seem to find any at all. i'll try to get pics wednesday

nevermind the part about aisin parts /\ but upon digging into the motor for 2.5-3 hours tonight i noticed something else (besides my knuckles bleeding), unless the factory gasket has metal around the edges or something this motor has a mhg (and more rtv)...which scares me. i'm starting to get the impression this motor was beat on hard in its life...looking in cyl 6 in the intake and exhaust ports it looks like there is discoloration, almost rusty while the others are just slightly carbonized and a little oil on the valve stems, any ideas?
