Just purchased new HKS metal HG from NOPI for my JDM motor before it is
installed. It seems to have some type of thin rubber like gasket on each
side. Question - is this sufficent for sealing or do you need to coat it with
something first? The thin rubber like stuff is not bonded to the gasket but
completly. So it would not be possible to coat the back sides. Is this intended to be used as is?? Opinions please--

search for "break quiet" or "permatex break quiet". people are coating their mhg's with that to fil in the imperfections in the head and block with success.

HKS has some kind of polymer coating on the gasket, most mhgs do, to improve the dry sealing. I used permetex coppercoat with success.
