Lots of folks have done this, and the vast majority of them have quickly discovered it's a seriously bad idea.

Those lights are great if you're building a show car that doesn't actually drive, but they are complete junk if you need light to see by. Putting genuine HID lights that *work* in Supras has been done several times, however, it's by no means an easy project.

I have tried regular ebay housings, smoked housings, and "projector" housings. All are complete junk from my experience. Buying a 7x6 housing and putting in an HID kit into them may be a cheap alternative to the stock yellow halogens, but it is just a scatter show on the road. I ran this type of setup for quite a while, and got high beamed from oncoming traffic multiple times every time I drove. It throws light everywhere, and not so much on the road where it is needed.

I recently just did a FX-R projector retrofit (with highbeam) with a Morimoto 5000k D2S HID kit, and I'll never look back!

Check out www.theretrofitsource.com for some REAL projectors that work. It is quite a bit of work to modify the housings to get them to fit etc, but well worth it. Ebay housings are great if you plan on doing a retrofit, because they have a clear front lens and are easy to cut up.

Total Cost of ebay housings with plug and play HID kit: $70 ?
Total Cost of ebay housings with a real projector retrofit: $350 plus some hours of labour to custom fit into housings... The choice is yours :)

Grim, you still trying to market a P&P HID setup for our cars? I forget what you were selling them at, but it seemed reasonable to me for proven results...

How much was it? What all was included? Could I see an example of the light pattern?
DamnifIremember... lots. You could search in the for sale sections for threads started by Poodles, it'll probably show up pretty quick. There were some examples of the light pattern in the for sale thread as well, but it basically looks exactly the same as the ones jdemara posted.

Guess I should get to work making more :)
I'll be buying a set from you eventually. Is it easy enough to swap out that it wouldn't be a headache to put in my current car, then swap over to the shell when we do the widebody thing? Don't need two sets, but would it be worth the time/effort for the time being?

Yes, the install is childishly simple.

Good to know... Summer's coming, and I don't drive at night often anymore, but who knows. I'll be buying a set eventually, just not sure when. Definitely on the list. :)
