I'm running a magnaflow 3" high-flow catalytic converter, mainly to reduce the smell from my exhaust, and it works wonders for that. (chicks don't like smelling like gas/race car/exhaust after a cruise with the targa off )

My car made 393rwhp with a test pipe. I was just wondering how much power this cat might be robbing me, and if there is an extremely high-flowing brand out there that would cause a negligable loss compared to a test pipe?

How about splitting the exhaust between 2 cats for extra flow? The magnaflow was cheap, and this might be a good solution.

Do you have the part number on the cat you're using? Is it a ceramic core or metallic core? In general the metallic sprial cores cells are 2x larger and are higher flowing. If it's a metallic core you have I'd stick with it if I were you. I haven't dyno'd them to see the difference but the seat'o'da'pantsometer says there is a VERY noticeable difference with the metallic cores....good luck.

I haven't seen anyone do a back to back dyno on a supra, but I've seen em on hondas, domestics, ect...

2HP...that's it. That's within the range of other variables as well, so don't sweat it and stick with the cat.

It's a model 94009. Inside it looks like ceramic. Does magnaflow make metal cores as well? Couldn't easily find any on their site.

Was on a mustang, hence the low HP numbers  I've found more, but just look around. There is very little reason not to run a high flow cat. I think Mike said it, you're either being cheap or your running leaded gas...

One of these decades I'll get off my lazy @$$ and get this done. i've always wanted to do a back to back with:

  • Factory Cat
  • Test Pipe
  • Ceramic Core
  • Metallic Core
I know it's been done with other cars but everyone keeps asking with Supra's and I've personally never seen anything.

and just so its clear, i have NO EXPERIENCE with the link i posted, i just posted what somebody was looking for... 3.5'' cat under $200... lol

i personally think its silly to have a 3.5'' or a 4'' exhaust system and worry about the effects its going to have... just my opinion. but if your trying to fool somebody two v-bands on the one i posted would make it really easy to swap in and out.

You and opinions seem to be very high these days. This is because it makes it legal with a cat, and the noise reduction aid that I require. I could care less about the 5-10 hp loss if it is that high. Thanks for the source though.

because your turbo and custom FFIM arent illegal... rofl...

if you just want to knock some noise down, get a muffler for it, vibrant has those super quiet ones.

i have lots of opinions, and so do plenty of otheres around here.

You are so correct in that statement. You should learn to keep the personal ones that relate to yourself to yourself. When , and if you grow up you will realize this. I'd rather hear facts on a subject than your personal bashing opinions. But...thats my personal opinion, and just maybe others enjoy the bullshit!

Here's a noob question:

I'm getting a DDP put on real soon and want to put on a 3" hi-flow cat. When I get them, how do the flanges mate up? I understand that the DDP mates up to the stock cat flange, but they're obviously different sized piping... does an exhaust shop have to weld on flanges with larger holes? Also, until I can get a 3" hi-flow cat could/should I use a DDP with the stock cat since it's a different sized piping?

you normally have to weld the flanges to the CAT, so you line them up to the downpipe and the cat-back so that way you just bolt them together... you can try to use the ddp with the stock cat, but it'll probably leak...

3'' cats are like $60... go to a local exhaust shop, i got one plus two flanges for $70!!!!

No, it fits fine. Flanges are the same size just with a smaller opening.

On the spun metal cats, I love mine, and the spinning is supposed to make the flow a lot more smooth increasing flow.
