Hey guys, I'm Ryan. I'm 16 but just bought my first project car- a 1987 turbo supra 5 speed. The car has 201k on it but I have some pretty big plans, including a complete rebuild. However, I have a few preliminary questions about the car. First of all, it needs an A/C recharge, but my R134a hose will not fit on the attachment. any suggestions? also, there is a light tapping in the top half of the motor somewhere about 3500 rpm. I think its the valves or head gasket but I'm not sure. Thanks!

As for your A/C, these cars originally came with R12 refrigerant, so unless it's been retrofitted to R134a, the R134a fitting will not work on your A/C lines.
I'd get that tapping sound looked at by someone local, there are plenty of users on this forum that are in your area. I would suggest having someone check it out for you.

See I thought it was R12 except I asked the guy who I bought it from (hes in my math class) and he said R134, he could be wrong though. Is there any way to check? thanks for the help! excited to finally be a part of the supra community
Welcome to SM Ryan! If the car was retrofitted for R134 it should have the correct fitting for R134 because they come with the retrofit kit, since it does not, it most likely still have some R12 in it, you don’t want to mix them. Most A/C shops do a free check at this time of year, look around to see if there are any shops doing so and they should be able to tell you what it has and if there is something wrong with the A/C system.
