first off let me say this is a great sight with more information than i can process.
with that being said let me introduce myself, my name is shawn and i live in reno nv. recently i was given an 89 mkiii turbo. the price was right so i loaded her up on a trailer and brought her home.
the body is straight except for the drivers front fender not a big deal. the interior is in great shape. the previous owner just wanted the car to go to a good home. anyway supposedly the only thing wrong with the engine is justa bhg. i checked the oil and sure enough it was milkshaked. then i made the mistake of digging in a little deeper i pulled the #6 plug, when i pulled it out there was oil running off the plug like the cylinder was full of oil. i wanted this to be my winter project but now its the front runner. i took the oil cap off and looked inside everything looks burnt, took the intake off the turbo the wheel doesnt spin freely. i guess its not all bad news i did want to do a full build on this car but really all i wanted to do was swap a head gasket on and drive her till i was ready for the build this winter.
but now i have questions for everyone out there. since ron r isnt building the ffim anymore where can i find one???
also the one thing i've noticed when looking at the build and engine bay threads is what happens to the maf right after the air filter?? in all pics i've seen its not there.
